Representational art is art that depicts subjects that are easily recognized by most people. 
 
The subject in a representational painting may not look like the item in real life, but it can still be identified.  For example, we can recognize a crowd of people in a painting from just a few strokes of the brush even though humans certainly don’t look like that.
