It may not be possible for some of us to visit an art gallery or art museum now due to the Covid-19 situation.  While we may not be able to look at physical paintings face to face, we can move online to look at paintings on the screen.

When we look at paintings on the screen, we are looking at photographic images of the paintings, videographic captures of the paintings, or even virtual reality views of the paintings.  So when we are looking at paintings on the screen, we are looking at the paintings through several tools: the camera or video recorder or VR equipment that has recorded the image of the paintings, and the computer monitor or mobile phone or TV screen that is displaying the the image of the paintings. 

These tools enable us to look at paintings on the screen, bringing about much convenience and advantages. We can look at paintings wherever we are, without the need to leave the house.  We can access huge collections of paintings in museums and galleries around the world, including paintings that are now in private collection.  We can zoom in to see the fine details in all parts of the paintings, which is not possible when looking at the physical paintings.  We can look at the paintings as long as we want to, as many times as we want to, which is not practical when visiting a physical museum or gallery.  

Looking at paintings on the screen is an easy and efficient way to enjoy paintings.  And for some of us, it may be the only option available now. 

How to appreciate paintings?  Looking at paintings on the screen opens up new ways to appreciate paintings.
